The technical innovations introduced in the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup are attracting the drivers' interest.

After the success achieved in its first year of life, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup -TGR Iberian Cup-, returns this weekend in its second edition, which promises to be even more competitive and spectacular than last season.

The TGR Iberian Cup keeps the same configuration and the aim of attracting young drivers who want to compete in an accessible single-brand cup to push their sporting development and improve their competitiveness while gaining experience. These are the great incentives offered by the promotional cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and Motor & Sport Institute (MSi), which is a guarantee after the success already achieved in 2022.

In the Serras de Fafe Rally, the list of participants in the cup has doubled, with new units registered for the renewed Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup, which is even more competitive. As for the teams, a good number of those who registered in 2022 repeat this season, and these are joined by new talents who put even more value on the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup. In total, 15 teams are registered to take the start in Fafe.

At the technical level, a new gearbox will improve the efficiency of the Toyota GR Yaris and its speed to unprecedented heights. In addition to this major evolution, the aerodynamic improvements to the bodywork will improve reliability and performance in competition. On the other hand, the cash prizes for the participating teams have also been increased, and the TGR Iberian Cup calendar has become even more attractive for the drivers.

The current champion, Sergi Francolí, renews his commitment to the Toyota single-brand cup, as well as the rest of the drivers who made up the podium last season, Miguel Campos and Ricardo Costa. Pedro Lago Vieira, who already competed in some TGR Iberian Cup races last year, will also be present in Fafe, as well as Dani Berdomás, aiming to improve last season's results.

Regarding the new drivers, not only young talents, but also other seasoned drivers have seen in this competitive single-brand cup the best option to continue competing in rallies: Jose Carlos Mulero, Albert Llovera, Isaac Vera, Pierre Lafay, Javier Villa, Alberto Monarri, Bruno Bulacia, Jonathan Rieu, Jean Michel Roaux and Manu Gascou, will be the great novelty in the Portuguese stages.

As for the rally, the weather conditions will not be most favorable, as rain is forecast for the days of competition, turning the land of the timed special stages into a tough test for the drivers and their Toyota GR Yaris. Nevertheless, these conditions may be of enormous benefit to the teams, since they will surely leverage on the advantage of a four-wheel-drive car.

In addition, this year the Toyota GR Yaris are equipped with the new "Scorpion" tires from Pirelli, a brand that joins the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup as official tire supplier. The Italian company brings to the Cup its enormous experience in competition, being the tire supplier  in the WRC 1 of the World Rally Championship (WRC) of the FIA.

The Serras de Fafe Rally starts on Friday 10th in the evening with an urban super special stage, and will last until Sunday afternoon, featuring a total of 17 timed sections.
